Full Stack Optimization Drives Revenue Increase for The National Law Review

As a trusted source of legal news, analysis, and insights for 120 years, The National Law Review (NLR) has built a reputation for high-quality content that attracts a loyal, professional audience. With increasing traffic and strong engagement, the NLR’s flagship website has consistently ranked among the top ten legal information and news websites in the U.S.  Prior to engaging Adapex, the NLR was well-positioned for monetization success through increased programmatic ad sales. However, the NLR’s ad tech was not state-of-the-art and its limited set of optimization features was holding them back.

With a high-value audience and growing demand for its content, The National Law Review needed a smarter, more scalable monetization strategy, one that prioritized revenue growth and a seamless user experience.

Despite strong site traffic and high-quality content, National Law Review was missing key components of a modern monetization strategy. Without bid caching, server-side bidding, ad refresh, or diverse ad formats, the site wasn’t fully capitalizing on its revenue potential. Demand quality concerns were limiting revenue potential and affecting the overall user experience.

Following a thorough site audit in the spring of 2024, Adapex recommended a full-stack solution designed to upgrade performance across the board.

Recommended implementations included:

• Header Bidding to drive up competition and yield
• Server-side bidding (S2S) for improved speed and auction efficiency
• Bid caching to increase bid rates and reduce timeouts
• Ad Refresh to capture additional value from long session durations
• Support for multiple downward sizes to improve fill and viewability
• New ad formats, including responsive display and high-impact units
• Video ad units with Aniview and Primis to tap into premium demand
• Native ad integration through RevContent for diversified revenue
• AI-powered layout optimization via Browsi to improve ad engagement
• Demand quality monitoring to ensure top-tier partners and protect UX

This comprehensive setup modernized the National Law Review’s monetization stack and laid the foundation for sustainable, long-term revenue growth. Within three months of the implementation of Adapex’s initial recommendations, the NLR saw substantial progress.  Now a year into the relationship with Adapex, the progress has been truly impressive.

With the bulk of Adapex’s recommendations in place, The National Law Review is now operating near-fully optimized, with a truly modern ad stack. This has driven stronger revenue performance, a better user experience, and improved partner quality. The NLR team anticipates that with continued refinement by Adapex, additional month-over-month improvement will continue. The results so far (one year into the Adapex relationship) – comparing early 2025 vs. early 2024 are as follows.

Adapex quickly identified gaps in our setup and implemented meaningful improvements. Their team was responsive, strategic, and delivered on what they promised.  Adapex’s results thus far have exceeded my expectations.”
